General Information
POGG is an informal fellowship of persons with common interests in public affairs. POGG Canada has been registered in Ontario as a sole proprietorship, with Harry Weldon as the proprietor and Chair, and operates on a not-for-profit basis. Participation in POGG events and committees, etc. is by invitation only. There is no formal membership but each regular attendee must become a ‘Subscriber' to POGG.
The subscriber fee is $10.
A discussion and fellowship meeting of all Subscribers will be convened annually each May or June.
Breakfast cost is currently $15 and is payable in cash at the door. Note: Subscribers may invite guests to POGG events but should provide that information to the Registrar in advance of the event. The breakfast cost for each guest is $20.
All 'No Show', enrolment and subscription fees must be paid at the door at a breakfast at the earliest opportunity.

An Evolving POGG
POGG Canada has evolved from a political discussion group of like-minded friends and acquaintances. It is now a broader cross-section of invited (new and old) friends who discuss an eclectic range of public issues, on a non-partisan basis. The only caveat is that all who attend do so accepting that what they hear must not be attributed to the speaker outside of the event. This caveat has enabled our friends and guests to speak openly, as if in a private conversation with friends.
Our guest speakers have covered a broad range of municipal, provincial, federal and international topics. Of particular interest is that 11 of our past POGG Guest Speakers now attend POGG breakfast meetings. Some former speakers have also fully participated in POGG non-partisan studies and reports. Though not all of us have worked on our studies and reports, all of us have had opportunities to discuss the subject and content of such studies and reports prior to their public release.
New knowledge, better-informed opinions, friendships and valued acquaintances continue to be the reward for POGG attendance and participation.
The established trend is that POGG will produce, on a very selective basis, more studies and reports over the years ahead, as and when requested by regular attendees. Studies and reports will continue to be suggested, presented and discussed at a regular breakfast event. You must be a 'Friend' to participate on a committee. Some reports have been made public, and/or presented to governments, as the well-considered report of a specific responsible ad hoc committee.
The core and beauty of POGG is that no one is obligated to do more than to attend and enjoy the regular events. Yet, if a regular attendee (Subscriber) is able to persuade at least two other Subscribers to join in a study of a topic or issue, then an authorized ad hoc committee is formed. Results of the research and deliberations of each ad hoc committee must be placed before a regular breakfast meeting or similar function before it is made available outside of POGG. What occurs afterwards, if anything, depends upon the acceptance and circumstances.
